Designed by Alfredo Bianchi from a sketch of The Ultimate Motorcycle by Count Mario Revelli, the Aermacchi Chimera (Dream) was certainly futuristic among classic Italian motorcycles. Its totally enclosed styling and rear single shock suspension were too radical for the Italian public and sales were poor. Redesigned as a sports machine, with conventional twin rear shocks and an exposed motor, sales improved. This motorcycle concept evolved into the Harley-Davidson Sprint models that are familiar to vintage motorcycle enthusiuasts in the USA.

I wish somebody would make a small 100-175cc street bike again. The styling of this one is Crazy man!

From the viewpoint of a 1960's enthusiast, this really looks like Bizarro styling. I don't really like it but do appreciate it was an effort to give a certain kind of styling to a motorcycle. We should remember there were other examples of bodywork on certain models, which were also an effort to replace mechanical looks with sheet metal. I am thinking of Ariels, certain "bathtub" Triumphs, and Jawas. Thanks so much for showing off this one!
